Oglethorpe alumna and trustee Dean Dubose Smith ’70 is matching every alumni gift, dollar for dollar up to $1 million, for the new I.W. 鈥淚ke鈥� Cousins Center for Science and Innovation. Any amount contributed by Oglethorpe’s , April 21, 2018 will be doubled.
“Oglethorpe鈥檚 current success is a result of dedicated alumni who have given back to our great University over the years…(and) Oglethorpe has big goals for its future,” said Smith. “I know we can all come together to make a $1 million difference for OU! That鈥檚 why I am issuing a challenge to all alumni.”
The building’s capital campaign is co-chaired by聽alumni Tim Tassopoulos ’81, president and chief operating officer of聽Chick-fil-A, Inc. and聽Cameron Bready ’94, chief financial officer of聽Global Payments.聽Groundbreaking for the Cousins Center for Science and Innovation is scheduled for May 2018 and the building is projected to open in 2019.
Plans include completely renovating the 20,000-square-foot Goslin Hall, the current science building, and adding a modern, light-filled 25,000-square-foot addition.聽 Designed by Cooper Carry, the new building will encompass the existing space, creating a completely reimagined 45,000-square-foot facility, featuring innovation and design-thinking spaces.
The building is named in honor of 1927 Oglethorpe alumnus聽Ike Cousins, a science major and three-sport letterman, and in recognition of a generous gift from the Cousins Foundation in Atlanta.
