Senior Kelly Jacobson ’17Â is one of only 21 students nationwide to win a from the Sigma Zeta National Science and Mathematics Society. Established in 2011, the awards help to fund undergraduate student research projects.
Kelly, a and  double major, received the award to support her research in “Acquisition and Analysis of Burn Data for Materials Coated with Non-brominated Flame-resistant Polymers”.
In 2014, Kelly joined the on-campus Polymer Organic Chemistry , led by chemistry professor Dr. Gregory Gabriel. In her role as a research assistant, Kelly elucidated the antibacterial properties of novel cationic polymers and their silver nanoparticle complexes.
Kelly is on the Dean’s List and is president of Oglethorpe’s Alpha Nu Chapter of Sigma Zeta and the . Her goal is to become a professor.
