A group of psychology faculty, majors and recent graduates traveled to the annual conference in Charleston, SC last month to present research and attend talks.

Professors Leah Zinner, Lisa Hayes and Justin Wise presented a poster on their collaborative research, “Predictors of Grades in an At-Risk Middle School Sample.鈥
Psychology major Michael Bower and graduate聽Michelle Huang ’17聽presented a poster titled 鈥淒o Feelings of Embarrassment Decline with Age?,”聽co-authored with Drs. Wise and Zinner.
Psychology majors Rachel Klika and Alyssa Paduano, and graduate Ana Almeida-Rojo ’17 presented a poster titled 鈥淪tigmatization of Mental Illness: The Effect of News Event and Disorder Label,鈥 co-authored with Dr. Hayes.

In addition to the poster presentations, the attendees were able to take in scholar talks. Dr. Zinner found one talk to be聽 particularly helpful.
“It was a talk specifically for department chairs, and I learned all about an organization entitled 鈥淎ssociation of Heads of Departments of Psychology鈥 that will be a great resource to me when I become Division chair at the end of the semester,” Dr. Zinner said. “They discussed issues that were important for department chairs at a variety of types of institutions, some of which were very similar to Oglethorpe.”
Travel funds to the conference were provided in part by the Faculty Development Committee.
