IEW, a joint initiative of the U.S. Departments of State and Education, celebrates the value and benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. It is also an opportunity to promote programs that not only prepare Americans for a global environment, but also attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences.
This year, the Oglethorpe鈥檚 Global Education office in the聽Atlanta Laboratory for Learning聽is hosting a slate of events, including an international student panel, a cultural fair, study abroad informational sessions, and more:
- “” Fri., Nov. 12, 12 p.m. – Biology major Jonathan Sev茅re ’25 will speak about building a stable, equitable and productive community in Haiti. Hear about Jonathan鈥檚 work with the Atlanta Haitian Institute, his research goals and ways to get involved.
- “” Tues., Nov. 16, 5 p.m. – In this panel featuring Oglethorpe students and alumni, panelists will speak candidly about their study abroad choices, preparation and experiences and what students may encounter overseas when it comes to race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, socio-economic background and other aspects of identity.
- , Thurs., Nov. 18, 5 – 7 p.m. – Join Global Education and OU international students and clubs for an evening of cuisine, music and entertainment from all around the world!
- ” Fri., Nov. 19, 1 p.m. – Dr. Jeffrey Collins will share poetry, short essays and visuals from his books, 鈥淭he Archipelagos of Summer: Poems of Greece鈥� and 鈥淧hoenix Songs鈥�.
Starting Monday, Global Education and students from Oglethorpe’s exchange partner campuses will be tabling in the Turner Lynch Campus Center from 11 a.m. -1 p.m. Stop by to learn more about studying abroad, the benefits of global learning and insights about partner campuses like Catholic University of Lille, TU Dortmund and University Francisco Victoria.
