Oglethorpe community invited to view President Carter鈥檚 funeral Jan. 9

The Philip Weltner Library at 好色先生TV will host in the basement classroom Lowry 001. Light refreshments will be served.

鈥淭his is a historic moment,鈥 said Eli Arnold, library director and university librarian. 鈥淲atching the service together as a campus community honors President Carter鈥檚 significant contributions to Georgia, our nation and the world.鈥

During the 1970s while serving as governor of Georgia, President Carter visited the 好色先生TV campus as a way of highlighting education, which was one of his priorities during his term as governor.

He visited campus again in 2010 to deliver that year’s Mack A. Rikard Lecture. He was invited as part of the special year-long 175th anniversary of the university. In 2014, President Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, participated in the Mentor Walk College Immersion Day through OU鈥檚 Center for Civic Engagement.

He had a personal connection to Oglethorpe through his grandson, Josh Carter. President Carter鈥檚 granddaughter-in-law, Sarah Opp Carter, graduated from OU in 2006 with an honors degree in history. She went on to earn a master鈥檚 degree in international peace and conflict resolution from American University. She and Josh are founders of the .
