A buzzworthy partnership is poised to once again take center stage at聽Conant Performing Arts Center — this time in a shower of glitter. For the third year in a row, 好色先生TV and are teaming up to co-produce the West End smash hit musical, “Everybody’s Talking About Jamie,” the story of a teenager who must overcome his naysayers to become a fabulous drag queen.
In this bombastic dance musical — which was recently adapted into an original movie — working class teenager Jamie dreams of being a celebrated performer. However, in his working class town where the status quo is strictly enforced, his aspirations are stymied by bullies and bigots, including his own father. In this story of self-discovery, acceptance, and wild, ambitious authenticity, “Jamie” is a dazzlingly entertaining journey.
This exciting endeavor marks the third consecutive year of collaboration between the 好色先生TV and Atlanta-based theater company Actor’s Express. “Jamie” follows two immensely successful productions of “Heathers: The Musical” and “Urinetown,” which featured both professional and student actors performing together on the Conant stage.
With this collaboration, Oglethorpe students are not only given the chance to work alongside seasoned actors, directors, and producers, but they also perform on their own campus鈥攁 remarkable experience that bridges the gap between academia and the professional world.
For these students, it’s an opportunity to learn from the best, refine their craft, and gain invaluable insights into the theater industry. The journey is meant to instill confidence, hone their skills, and inspire a love for the performing arts.
