The national tribute to culture and history began in 1968 when President Lyndon Johnson created a week-long observation to . The celebration — extended to a month in 1988 — coincides with the independence days of El Salvador, Costa Rica, Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua and Chile.
Join Oglethorpe students, faculty, and staff in celebrating Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month. Check throughout the month for more events and programs.
On campus
September 12 at聽 6:30 p.m. Celebrate with student group HOLA [(Hispanic) Oglethorpe Latinx Organization] as they kick off Hispanic Heritage Month with a traditional game night of Loteria. The game is similar to bingo, but players fill their cards with pictures to win. Everyone is welcome to attend! In celebration of Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month, the Intercultural Center will host events all month. On Sept. 19, join the Intercultural Center for “Songs of Resistance.” Listen to Spanish and English songs of resistance written and/or performed by Latines and enjoy some delicious Latino snacks!
Join HOLA student group on Sept. 28 and enjoy a movie celebrating Hispanic/Latino heritage.
This event will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month while providing an opportunity to learn about the realm of psychology within the Latinx community. Oglethorpe professor Dr. Silvia Henriquez will share her experiences, stories, and advice and take questions from students.
Come sing and dance as a celebration for the end of the month at a rancho/western karaoke and baile night with OU Monarchs student group and Chi Phi fraternity on Oct. 12.

Open through October 15.聽View Mexican artist Yehimi Cambr贸n鈥檚 exhibition at OUMA: Documenting the Undocumented in the South. In her first solo exhibition in Atlanta, she explores a range of personal and political struggles that refuse any singular narrative of what it means to be an immigrant.
Close out Hispanic Heritage Month with artist Yehimi Cambr贸n, including an evening lecture and closing reception for her exhibition on October 14. Admission to this special evening with the artist is free and open to the public鈥攏o advanced ticketing. No reservations. First come, first seated.聽

This festival highlights the Latino creative scene of the city and bringing together music, art, food, and local Latino-owned businesses for a celebration of our community!
September 15 – October 13.聽In celebration of the depth that the Latinx world brings to our society, Placita Latina presents its third annual invitational art exhibition. Seven Latinx artists with diverse backgrounds and representing seven countries come together to share their perspectives and stories in a month-long art exhibition.
