Last week, Oglethorpe kicked off the giving season with its third annual聽Philanthropy Week, an event hosted by the office of that seeks to build awareness and educate the campus community on the importance of giving and giving back.
“After speaking to some student leaders and members of the Alumni Board, it seemed as if there was a need to draw special attention to how, for example, scholarships and buildings were funded and how those gifts made a difference to those of us who attend or work at Oglethorpe,” said聽Barbara Henry ’85, director of donor relations.
“Our goal was to plan activities and events that would touch a variety of audiences鈥攕tudents, faculty, staff, alumni and members of our Boards.”
This year’s highlights included signage across the facades of campus buildings, detailing donor and gift information that made those buildings possible, a gratitude garden displaying more than 200 messages of thanks from the Oglethorpe community, and more than 125 thank you notes written by alumni to faculty and staff members.
In addition, the university volunteers enjoyed a thank you luncheon, and recipients of endowed scholarships penned thank you notes which will be sent to donors prior to Thanksgiving.聽 A group of students also had the chance to share how Oglethorpe has made a difference in their lives at the most recent Board of Trustees meeting.
