On Saturday, December 2,聽 hosted the biannual Night of the Arts in the TLCC Game Room. Open to any and all students and faculty, Night of the Arts—or, NoTA, as it is affectionately nicknamed—takes place once a semester and is a way for The Tower staff to highlight talents which cannot be printed in the pages of a magazine.
From singing, dancing, and guitar freestyling to spoken word poetry, rapping, and stand-up comedy, the fall 2017 NoTA had an array of talents on display, including its very first drag performance by Oglethorpe鈥檚 own 鈥淪atana Lux.鈥� Other standout performances included Dr. John Orme performing an original piano piece and the OU jazz ensemble, The Jazzy Petrels, closing out the night.
The Tower鈥檚 Editor-in Chief Emily Rodriguez 鈥�20 says, 鈥淣ight of the Arts was truly an experience. There were so many amazing and unique acts. Where else can you find drag, stand-up, poetry, and more all in one show? I can鈥檛 wait for next year!鈥�
Other highlights of the night included the debut of the fall 2017 edition of the magazine, English faculty newcomer Dr. Nicholas Bujak delivering a rousing keynote address on shock factor and politics in art, and Prof. Jessica Handler, The Tower鈥檚 faculty adviser, awarding this semester鈥檚 “Handler鈥檚 Choice” awards for her favorite pieces in each category of poetry, prose, and visual art.
