Award winners Mark Gross, Jon Akin, Renee Vary Keele, Danny Glassmann, George Kopec and Melissa Briley.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The second annual Employee Recognition Luncheon was held this week and a number of staff and faculty members were recognized for their exceptional service to Oglethorpe.<\/p>\n

Oglethorpe staff members were invited to nominate their peers for six awards that recognized individuals who have gone \u201cbeyond the call of duty.\u201d All awards included a monetary prize.<\/p>\n

The Staff Member of the Year Award for the 2013-14 academic year went to Renee\u00a0Vary Keele<\/strong>, director of University Communications. Her award was presented by co-worker and nominator J. Todd Bennett<\/strong>, executive director of University Communications, who spoke of her revitalization of the university’s Carillon<\/em> magazine and media relations efforts, which both garnered several national awards over the past year<\/a>, among other accomplishments. “As the university\u2019s editor-in-chief,” Todd said, “she has improved or created tools to tell the Oglethorpe story including the\u00a0OU Stories<\/a>, OU Newswire<\/a>, and the Carillon<\/a>. Renee\u2019s taken on the work of arts promotion, including all marketing and promotion for the museum<\/a>. She supports practically every office and department on campus, and does it exceedingly well.”<\/p>\n

Additional awards were presented to staff members who exhibited exemplary conduct during the past year in specific categories. The winners of these awards are:
\nCustomer Service Award: George Kopec<\/strong>, Director of Development Services
\nProfessionalism Award: Danny Glassmann<\/strong>, Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Residence Life
\nQuality Award: Mark Gross<\/strong>, Assistant Director of the Academic Success Center
\nTeamwork Award: Jon Akin<\/strong>, Head Soccer Coach
\nCreativity Award: Melissa Briley<\/strong>, Accounts Receivable Manager<\/p>\n

The Staff Recognition Committee was responsible for reviewing and evaluating all of the nominations to determine the winners. This year\u2019s committee was comprised of last year’s award winners Laura Masce<\/strong>, Suzy Lane<\/strong>, Judy Zahn<\/strong> and Katie Paden<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Additionally, pins were presented to employees who celebrated notable work anniversaries at Oglethorpe. Celebrating 5 years of service were Lesley Cole<\/strong>, Leah Zinner<\/strong>, Devon Belcher<\/strong>, Suzy Lane<\/strong> and David Dixon<\/strong>. Celebrating 10 years of service were Daniel Adams<\/strong>, Peter Howell<\/strong>, Kendra King<\/strong>, Lynn Guhde<\/strong>, Roarke Donnelly<\/strong>, Anne Salter<\/strong> and George Kopec<\/strong>. Celebrating 15 years of service were Nick Maher<\/strong> and John Carton<\/strong>. Jeffrey Collins<\/strong> celebrated 20 years and Alan Loehle<\/strong>, Jay Lutz<\/strong> and Barb Henry<\/strong> all celebrated 25 years. John Orme<\/strong> and Monte Wolf<\/strong> celebrated 30 and 35 years, respectively.<\/p>\n
