World-renowned artist and scientist David Goodsell<\/strong> spoke with students in Cell Biology, a 400-level class taught by Dr. Karen Schmeichel<\/strong>, via Zoom recently from the Scripps Research Institute in California.<\/p>\nThe cover of the August 2020 issue of Nature magazine shows Dr. Goodsell’s scientific illustration depicting the COVID virus.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
Dr. Goodsell is professor of computational biology at the Scripps Research Institute, where he uses computer graphics and simulation to study the structure and function relationships in key biological systems.<\/p>\n
But, he is perhaps best known as the father of molecular visualization — one of the first in the world to produce molecular graphics.<\/p>\n
